Instructions and Requirements

The Bard Baccalaureate (BardBac) is a community of scholars 24 years and older pursuing Bachelor’s degrees on full-tuition scholarship at Bard College. BardBac students enroll full-time on Bard’s main campus in Annandale-on-Hudson, NY, and enter a network of students from Bard’s other adult education programs--in libraries, community organizations, and prisons--who are doing college in unconventional places, often against considerable odds. Applicants to the BardBac must complete the Common Transfer Application, submit financial aid forms as required, and complete and submit this form by March 1, 2024.

If you’ve gotten this far in the Bard Baccalaureate application, you should already have submitted the Common Application, the FAFSA, and the CSS Profile. So, thank you--it’s a lot of work to apply to Bard, and we appreciate your thoughtfulness and diligence in persisting through the process.

We have four more questions to ask, which will help us get to know you a little better as a potential BardBac student.

1. Spend some time with the Bard College Course Catalogue. If you’re accepted, these are the fields of study and types of classes you’ll be choosing from when you plan your path to the BA degree. What’s one class offered here that truly excites you when you think about taking it? What is it about this class that makes your heart leap?

2. The BardBac was originally designed for adult students living within commuting distance of the Bard campus in Annandale-on-Hudson. Where do you currently live, and what will the commute be like for you to get to campus four or five days a week?

3. The BardBac Scholarship covers tuition, books, and most fees (see the BardBac website for more details). There are also a very limited number of BardBac housing scholarships that cover room-and-board costs for BardBac students to live in the dorms. Dorm life isn’t for everyone, and Bard doesn’t offer family housing. But would you like to be considered for such a scholarship? If so, tell us why.
